In 1975 ESB International, was formed to bring energy engineering expertise, skill, and leadership to clients worldwide.

1975

Ireland

ESB International, a leading global engineering consultancy specialising in the utility sector, ​was established in 1975. We focus on delivering large scale capital infrastructure projects for international clients and our parent company, ESB. Our world-class team helps clients worldwide create modern, efficient, and dependable energy systems that can transform the economies and societies they serve.

1976

Kingdom of Bahrain

ESB International secures projects in Bahrain and opens the first office in the region. ESB International has been Resident Consultant to the Ministry of Electricity and Water since 1976 and has engineered, powered, supported, and monitored more than one hundred electricity contracts.

1987

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

ESB International opens an office in Kuala Lumpur in 1987 due to increasing work and contracts in ​Asia. Malaysia proved an important market for ESB International as ​we continued to grow our business around the world.

1998

Ireland

ESB opens its first wind farm at Crockahenny, Co. Donegal in 1998. ESB has since developed a portfolio of renewable assets including an operational wind portfolio of over 400 MW complemented by acquisitions and partnerships.

2005

South Africa

ESB International successfully completed a €3.5 million contract for Eskom, the South African electricity company, to provide engineering consultancy services to construct two new power plants. These two facilities ​were the first new major power plants built in South Africa in nearly 20 years.

London

Having had a presence in the UK from 1990, we opened an office to facilitate further growth and support ESB's powerplant portfolio in the UK – Marchwood in Southampton, Corby Power in Northampton, and Carrington in Manchester.

Tanzania

ESB International won an international competitive tender to provide energy sector consultancy services to the Millennium Challenge Account Tanzania (MCA-T) Energy Project. The project aimed to ensure the long-term development of power transmission and distribution networks in Tanzania for future generations.

2012

Malaysia

ESB International highlighted the importance of the Malaysian market for its future growth strategy, with an event marking 25 years of Malaysia operations. The Irish Ambassador to Malaysia, HE Declan Kelly, hosted the event, which was attended by the Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Joe Costello, TD.

2012

Turkey

In 2012, ESB International opened an office in Turkey. The office, located in Ankara, provided​ a platform for ESB International to expand its operations in the Turkish market and housed many support functions to support ESB International projects in the country.

2015

Ireland

In 2015 ESB International celebrated 40 years of business, with an event at Dublin Castle showcasing the many different cultures and traditions that ESB International has ​embraced over its 40-year history.

2016

Kingdom of Bahrain

In 2016 ESB International celebrated 40 years of work in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Over the 40 years, we have worked on many innovating and often challenging projects with various clients across the region.

2017

Malta

ESB International welcomed Irish Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Denis Naughten to Delimara 4 Power Plant in Malta, which we run on behalf of Electro Gas Malta.

Ireland

In January 2017, ESB International shut its doors on its old offices on Stephens Green and moved to an award-winning new building at Dublin Airport. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan officially opened the offices at an event in April.

2019

Bahrain

On the 24th of November, Bahrain’s ruler, HM King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa inaugurated Aluminium Bahrain’s (Alba) Line 6 Expansion project. Potline 6 will increase Alba’s annual production by 540,000 tonnes bringing the total production capacity to 1.54 million tonnes per year, making it the world’s largest aluminium smelter outside China. ESB International was responsible for the Specification, Tender Negotiation leading to Contract Award, Design Review, Project and Construction Management, Safety and Commissioning Supervision of the ALBA CCGT power plant project and associated Power Distribution Network.
