The Project
Turlough Hill is a 292 MW pumped storage plant. The station entered into service in 1974 and today still provides vital benefits to Ireland’s electricity infrastructure, particularly as a peaking plant.

All four 72 MW units required major investment to enable ESB to maximise its potential on the grid. - The Solution
Project management oversight on the refurbishment of four pump-turbine generating units, including all Balance of Plant (BOP). The scope included preparation of enquiry documents, tendering, procurement and supervision of the primary EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) Contract for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of replacement generator stators and full turbine refurbishment for all four units.

- Replacement of generator stators and rotors on all four units.
- Full refurbishment and reassembly of all four pump turbines.
- Design and installation of new digital governor control system.
- Full condition assessment and remedial works across site.
- Refurbishment of Turlough Hill control room and ESB Hydro Control Centre (HCC).
